All panels to be installed as detailed in ACP Concrete Ltd installation manual.
Concrete protection is recommended for all concrete surfaces that may come into contact with silage or silage effluent.
Check all joints to ensure sealant is correctly applied and in good order.
Check all concrete surfaces for signs of corrosion or mechanical damage. Ensure all repairs are fully cured before filling.
Check all walls, floor slabs and outside effluent channels for cracks. If any are noticed, contact an engineer for investigation before filling.
Ensure that safety fences and warning notices are all in position and in good order.
Check effluent tanks are empty and pipes connecting tanks to the clamp are free from obstructions. Check all effluent systems by flushing with clean water and looking for leaks or blockages.
Ensure filling tractor or loader does not exceed the maximum vehicle weight (when fully loaded) allowed in the silo design. Also ensure that the operator is fully aware of all safety aspects of filling the clamp and does not exceed loadings shown on the safety notice.
Position internal drainage pipes (e.g. Perforated plastic coiled drainage pipe) at the base of all silo walls.

Check that incoming material is no more than 80% moisture content. If this figure is exceeded then filling should be halted until grass has dried to below this figure.
Check again that the effluent system is operating correctly and that tanks are emptied regularly and do not overflow.
Ensure that filling and compacting vehicle does not drive closer that 300mm (1 foot) from walls of silo.
Make sure that compacted silage is no higher than the top of the walls. Silage may be placed higher ONLY if the base of this extra is a minimum of 3 metres from any wall.
Inspect the exterior of the silo for any effluent leaks or cracks to walls or surrounding concrete. Any cracks or movement of walls should be reported to an engineer immediately and filling should be halted.
Once full, check all fixing bolts on horizontal panels for tightness.
After the silo has been emptied, carry out an annual maintenance inspection as indicated above. This should be done well before the silo is to be filled again to allow sufficient time for any remedial work to be carried out.
